Hello friends! Ivory & Pine welcomes Sara, a psychologist, blogger, and lover of massage therapy. She shares with us her top tips for improving your mental health!
People are starting to become increasingly aware of the importance of mental health, so there is a natural inclination towards figuring out ways to optimize mental health as much as possible. There are a number of tips that you can follow in order to aid you in this endeavor. Listed below are some of the best tips!
When you are depressed or anxious, you have a hormonal imbalance that is causing a number of mental problems. Exercising can help to maintain a more even hormonal response from your body, thus allowing you to regulate your mental chemical balance and enjoy a much more stable mood. It can also help you distract yourself from toxic thoughts.
The food that you consume has a significant impact on your overall health. You need to consume the right kind of food if you want to be able to enjoy your life to the fullest, because unhealthy food can exacerbate the symptoms of your mental illness. Try to consume an adequate amount of all sources of nutrition and your body would have an easier time of it while regulating your moods.
Smoking fills your body with nicotine which can give you a temporary rush and a pleasurable sensation. Smoking can be used as a temporary relief from depression or as a remedy to help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety, but at the end of the day it is still the sort of thing that would give you only temporary relief while destroying your health at the same time. You should avoid cigarettes because you can’t depend on them for your relief at all, doing so would only make your symptoms worse than they were before.
Befriend Positive People:
The people in your life have a significant impact on your overall mental health. If you have friends that put you down, you need to start cutting them out of your life. Only be friends with people that are supportive and understanding, people that understand how mental health problems work. It can be difficult to find such people, but it is highly important that you do so. Once you are surrounded by positive people, you are going to find that your mental health is a great deal better than it was before. Sometimes, the company we keep is perhaps the biggest factor in deciding our mental health.
See a Therapist:
This is perhaps the most important thing that you can do. You can’t just sit back in a massage chair and hope that everything will be alright. If you suffer from mental health problems, seeing a therapist can be just what you need in order to feel like yourself again. It can help you overcome your past traumas and rationalize the mental illnesses that you are suffering from. Suffice it to say that there is a lot to gain from taking that first step and seeing a therapist.
