I’m a long-time Grey’s fan, and I always loved the moments when Meredith and Cristina just had to dance it out. You know… crazy difficult patients, emotional overload, breakups, whatever. Dancing it out always helped. I’m a pretty firm believer in that too! I think dancing, whether it’s in a crowded club or alone in your bedroom, is seriously therapeutic (and if it is in your own bedroom, no one can judge your dance moves!).
And since it’s been a little while since I’ve released a playlist, I thought this would be the perfect time to share with you all the Dance It Out Playlist! It’s a blend of throwback classics, a little alternative, a little pop, and a lot of lighthearted, upbeat fun. I hope it helps get through one of those “dance it out” situations!
Here’s the whole list on Spotify!
Move- Saint Motel. A fun beat to get you started!
Idea of Happiness- What So Not Remix – Van She. This beat is EDM but a little more chill. It’s so catchy and fun!
Dancing on Glass- St. Lucia. Still not moving? Hopefully you are by now.
Despacito- Remix- Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, Justin Bieber. Because it’s the most popular video ever apparently and because it’s so darn catchy. Do not translate these lyrics for children.
Telephone- Lady Gaga feat. Beyonce. “Out in the club, and I’m sippin’ that bub, and you’re not gonna reach my telephone!” Party song circa 2009 when Gaga was SO TRENDY.
Uptown Funk- Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars. You loved it, and then you heard it too many times and got sick of it. Give it a little refresh, you’ll love it again. You can’t resist.
Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough- Michael Jackson. You can’t listen to this and sit still.
LoveStoned/I Think She Knows- Justin Timberlake. I think the ‘shadow years’ of JT somewhere between NSYNC and ‘Mirrors’ don’t get enough credit.
Not Your Way- Misterwives. Dance around and yell this at that guy who tried to stifle your beautiful, intelligent, capable self.
Get em Bodied- Beyonce. At some point, B did a version of this song focused specifically on fitness, I think to adjust the lyrics for schools. Great work out song!
I Took a Pill in Ibiza- Mike Posner. 1. Mike puts on a surprisingly good live show (or at least he did in 2011). 2. The lyrics are a bit existential and depressing, but that hook though.
Yeah! – Usher, Lil Jon, Ludacris. This song takes me right back to high school… and probably does for you too if you were there sometime between 2003-2009.
Mr. Brightside- The Killers. Too much dance music? Waiting for mid-2000s pop rock? Ok, here you go.
The Way You Make Me Feel- Michael Jackson. Another fantastically happy song from the King of Pop.
Tik Tok- Ke$ha. You probably intellectually hated thi$ $ong. And yet found it $urpri$ngly catchy.
Hips Don’t Lie- Shakira and Wyclef Jean. Still makes me want to speak Spanish.
Crazy in Love- Beyonce, Jay Z. Classic B, classic dance music. If by “classic” you mean mid-2000s.
Bad Girls- MIA. Get it girl.
Shake It Off – Taylor Swift. Shake off a bad mood, haters, ex-boyfriends, whatever you need to shake.
One, Two Step- Ciara. There are built-in moves! No excuse not to dance!
Rockabye- Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie. Positive, heartfelt message and awesome beat!
Bailando- Enrique Iglesias, Sean Paul, Gente de Zona. I was OBSESSED with this song when it first came out. Fun music video.
Bad Blood- Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar. The version with Kendrick is way better. Pull out your best bada** leather outfit to dance to this one.
Cheap Thrills- Sia. Party like it’s the weekend (on a budget!)
September- Earth, Wind, & Fire. No better way to finish off a dance party than with the happiest song ever.
Hope you enjoyed the list! Check out some of my other favorite playlists:
